Discussion: |
- The coding of baby foods needs to be better defined and documented, possible with some foods being removed from other groups. Also, the present approach is likely to lead to a deep hierarchy. Both points may be illustrated using Rusks as an example. These are present in the Bread products subgroup. Moved to the Baby foods, cereal based category, they may require codes such as 13.60.10.20.40 to represent the levels in the hierarchy Baby foods, cereal based, rusks, wholemeal. A starting point would be to define the requirements for recording baby foods separately from the main food groups, and to review the next level down (the present codes 13.60.xx) to see if this should be extended or more detailed information should be recorded at a lower level. Any comments or suggestions would be very welcome.
- Some 'functional foods' may be better included in this special Main Group or in special subgroups within the other Main Groups, or require new Descriptor System terms.
